To license a repairable written-off vehicle, two inspections are required. The initial inspection is undertaken by an Authorised WOVR inspector. The vehicle must then undergo an identity and roadworthy inspection. We also have qualified inspectors that can carry out this service.
You will need to bring
- Your Driver’s Licence
- Temporary Movement Permit
- All tax invoices and receipts for parts purchased and used on your vehicle.
- If you purchase parts from a wrecker or online – you need to provide the donor VIN where possible
- If purchased privately – eg Gumtree and no donor VIN is available – you will need a receipt that includes the name, address, and phone number of the vendor
- If the work is done by yourself, you will be required to provide a statutory declaration stating that you did the work, and you have the necessary qualifications to carry out this work.
- Proof of purchase of the vehicle
- Three sets of photographs of the vehicle. One set of photos taken before repairs were commenced, another during the repairs, and a final set after the repairs are completed. Each set of photos need to include the Left Hand side view, the Right Hand side view, the front view and the rear view.
Fees are charged at an hourly rate, and are dependent on the amount of work involved, with a minimum of 2 hours
Once the vehicle has passed the WOVR inspection we can carry out the required compliance inspection.
Note:
- We do not carry out initial inspections on personal import vehicles.
- We only inspect motorcycles, trikes, and ATV’s – vehicles without a steering wheel.
- A temporary Movement Permit is required if your vehicle is not registered in Western Australia. If you are unsure as to the status of your bike registration, please call our inspectors to clarify. All vehicles need to be road tested, so even if you are going to trailer your bike to us, we still require a movement permit for the road test.

A Department of Transport vehicle examination is solely for determining whether a vehicle complies with applicable vehicle standards and statutory requirements for vehicle licensing purposes. It is not intended to be relied on as an assessment of a vehicle’s condition or of any of its parts. It is also not intended to be relied on for any decisions involving the value of a vehicle.
COMMON FAULTS
Before bringing in your bike to be inspected, it may save you time to check the more common faults we encounter.
- Rear Guards are too short – the end of the rear guard needs to be at a 45 degree angle from the centre of the axle.
- Exhaust is too Loud – 94 decibels is the maximum allowed. This is measured under specific conditions and using approved test equipment. We can test this for you free of charge if you are uncertain.
- Indicators do not meet specifications – The rear indicators need to be 180mm apart and the front indicators need to be 240mm apart.
- Lights – all lights need to be working and lenses clean and E-marked (early models may not be E-marked)
- Seat damaged – No tears or splits in the seat is acceptable
- Tyres too worn – Tread must not be worn down to the tread depth indicators
- Mirrors too Small – Minimum acceptable is 60mmin diameter
